What is Craps?
Craps is a dice game that has intrigued and drawn in players for centuries. Dating all the way back to the Crusades, this game of luck can be seen as complicated to learn, but this isn’t necessarily the case.
Playing Craps online is fun and fast-paced, with plenty of ways to win. Compared to other casino table games , it may seem like there are too many moving parts but our handy how-to guides will help you understand the rules and give you tips to play with confidence at Stake.com.
Basics Overview & Game Rules
The game starts with the come-out roll. This is the first betting action while the Puck is set to OFF. You’ll place your bet on the Pass Line, and the shooter will roll the dice. When this takes place, 1 of 3 things can happen.
If the outcome of the single roll is 7 or 11, you’re a winner.
If the outcome is 2, 3, or 12, you lose, and the round is over.
If the roll lands on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, the Point is secured. The Puck is then set to ON and placed above the relevant number on the game board. This is the new Point Number.
The Pass Line bet will remain as is until the Point Number is rolled again. If this happens before a 7 is rolled, you will be a winner. In this case, the 7 is a losing roll rather than a win. When the Point Number or 7 is rolled again, the Puck is set to OFF once more.
There are a number of betting options available, but the most common include the following:
Pass and Don’t Pass Bets - The table is split into 2 sections: Pass and Don’t Pass. You either wager on the shooter losing or winning with these bets. If you bet on one of these outcomes, a roll of 12 is considered a Push, and you’ll receive your bet back.
Come and Don’t Come Bets - Even after the Point Number has been decided, these bets can be placed. Come Bets include winning if you land a natural 7 or 11. You’ll lose if you land Craps, which is 2, 3, or 12. Don’t Come Bets are the opposite.
Proposition Bets - The bets in Craps vary greatly, and the in-game tutorial will help you explore each one. There are many bet types available, and they are best made by experienced Craps players.
Once you understand the different rules and betting options, you can place all of your bets in the My Numbers section to help you keep track of your wins and losses.

What is the History of Craps?
Craps is a popular dice game with a long history. It’s found in casinos across the world, but its origins trace back to England in the 12th century when it was simply called “Hazard”. It was a game played among British nobles and soldiers alike.
Soon after the game became popular in the UK, it was adopted by the French, who simplified it and called it “Crapaud”, which means “toad”. It was given this name because players would crouch down and roll the dice on the ground.
French colonists took the game of Crapaud across the waters to New Orleans in the 18th century, where the game evolved once again. This time it was influenced by the African American communities found in America at the time.
In the 19th century, John H. Winn, a gambler from New Orleans, introduced the Don’t Pass betting option which made the game more balanced than before. It’s this version that we play today and can be found at casinos across the globe.
